Our Educational Leader, Leanne, holds a national award for her work, winning the 2015 Australian Scholarships Group National Excellence in Teaching Award for Excellence in Teaching.
The parents of MCEEC nominated Leanne, who provides guidance and direction for all staff on curriculum. She is also a staff mentor, working with other educators to reach their own potential and better understand the relationship between their work and learning outcomes for children.
The judges were impressed with the way Leanne incorporated her love of travel into her teaching. In 2014 Leanne travelled to Peru and involved the children in her classroom in her adventure. A simple discussion with the children about the differences between schooling in Australia and Peru led to an art and craft drive, with families donating items for Leanne to deliver to a school in Cusco, Peru. Leanne’s innovation in developing this project for young children created an exciting classroom environment and instilled a passion for learning about the world and how it works.
